Darren graduated from the University of Ulster with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Building Engineering & Management. He is a Chartered Construction Manager within the CIOB, and is also a Registered Surveyor with the SCSI.

He began his career working as an Estimator in a builders’ merchants and later as an Architectural Technician, gaining early technical and design experience. In 1998, Darren joined the Newry and Mourne Building Control Department, where he served as a Building Control Surveyor for 11 years. His responsibilities included assessing plans and carrying out site inspections across a wide range of developments, including residential schemes, hotels, nursing homes, and major commercial buildings.

Promoted in 2009 to Senior Building Control Surveyor, Darren managed a team of eight surveyors and oversaw monthly performance targets. His role also involved delivering presentations to architects, contractors and public stakeholders, chairing design team meetings, and addressing complex issues such as dangerous structures, regulatory contraventions, and on-site compliance challenges.

Darren joined ORS as a Senior Assigned Certifier in 2022 and has since contributed to diverse projects, including housing developments, nursing homes, hotel refurbishments, third-level education facilities, and large commercial properties. He was promoted to Associate Director in January 2026.

With more than 25 years’ experience in building control, regulatory compliance and project oversight, Darren brings rigorous technical expertise and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to every project.
