The scale of the project required a multi-phase approach. The timings of completion and BCAR sign-off were of particular importance to meet the client’s deliverable objectives.
The ORS Fire Safety Team developed a proactive solution for the delivery of its services. As the largest distribution centre in Ireland, ORS understood that the building was of particular focus for the fire brigade and local authorities. The team worked in collaboration with Westmeath County Council to meet completion milestones within the tight timeframe. ORS achieved this by involving the fire officer through the construction stage, in which they carried out several joint inspections with ORS.
Adopting this proactive approach, ORS achieved a timely BCAR sign-off of all development stages to the client’s satisfaction.
Although this extension was larger than other standalone warehouse developments, it was an extension rather than a new build none the same; therefore, this distribution centre had to remain operational throughout the construction period. Like any other project, this was met with its challenges. One challenge was working in a live environment, near members of the public and staff, ensuring life safety services always remained operational within the existing premises. Doing this while ensuring construction could proceed without any adverse effects added to this challenge.
The inclusion of temporary escape routes and multiple liaisons with the fire services resulted in the works proceeding without any issues. The ORS team delivered a seamless project based on comprehensive planning, exceptional execution, and a high degree of communication at all times.
