County Wicklow is well known for its hilly terrain with mountains and beautiful landscapes; this made the level difference between the site and adjacent buildings challenging. A topographical survey was carried out, and our engineers assessed the site condition. A detailed review of levels, types of retaining walls, cost savings, and structural safety was carried out to conclude the final design.
The proposed development is an extension to the existing South Point Business Park in Rathnew, Co. Wicklow, therefore, the first challenge faced by the design team was to avoid any disturbance to the existing industries located at the site. The technology of precise GPR surveys, GPS surveys and CCTV surveys of the existing services were essential to delivering a detailed drainage design that included connecting all existing services to the newly proposed network. The road design also provided permanent access to the existing units.
The client is a very experienced developer, and they assumed the role of PSCS for the project, utilising sub-contractors across the project as opposed to tendering this to a single main contractor. This proved a good strategy as it allowed the design team to progress through the various tender packages and release them to the sub-contractors at various timelines. This meant that there were no excessive delays in the design/tender stage, which ensured an efficient turnaround of the tender pricing.
