Overview of service

ORS was appointed by Sport Ireland to conduct detailed Energy Audits and develop a tailored Decarbonisation Pathway across their flagship Campus in Dublin. With energy use under increased scrutiny and public sector organisations expected to lead in meeting national climate targets, the Campus needed a clear roadmap to reduce consumption, lower emissions, and identify opportunities for renewable integration.

Our Sustainability team audited ten key buildings, including the Sport Ireland Institute, National Indoor Arena, and the National Aquatic Centre. The process involved thorough walkthroughs, analysis of historical utility data, and engagement with operational staff to ensure that all recommendations aligned with the Campus’s real-world usage patterns.

Project Outcome

ORS delivered a comprehensive final report outlining prioritised energy-saving actions and strategic recommendations tailored to each building. The audit has already informed capital planning and laid the foundation for sustainable upgrades, contributing to:

Sport Ireland has begun implementing several quick-win recommendations, such as timeclock adjustments and ventilation scheduling, with noticeable improvements. Feedback has been highly positive, reinforcing ORS’s position as a trusted energy partner to public bodies.

Challenges & Solutions

Sport Ireland required a complete picture of energy consumption across a busy, multi-use Campus — all without impacting daily operations. They needed to balance technical upgrades with cost-efficiency and align with government-mandated targets for carbon reduction and renewable energy adoption. These combined measures ensure the Campus is better positioned to meet its 2030 energy and emissions targets.

  • Comprehensive Energy Audits across ten buildings, identifying Significant Energy Users (SEUs) like HVAC, lighting, and hot water systems
  • Ventilation Scheduling Improvements to reduce unnecessary operation during unoccupied hours — with the potential to cut fan energy use by over 50%
  • BMS Optimisation including fine-tuned scheduling and improved real-time monitoring to drive better performance from existing systems
  • Renewable Energy Recommendations, including feasibility analysis for solar PV across multiple buildings
  • Heat Recovery and Zoning Proposals to enhance system efficiency and thermal performance
  • No/Low-Cost Quick Wins, such as improved control strategies, better use of sensors, and reconfiguration of existing infrastructure
